Simple Shelter's Azerbaijan Project

The South Caucasus Pipeline carries natural gas from Azerbaijan through Georgia to Turkey and the EU. The pipeline was commissioned in 2006 and is currently being re-laid in Azerbaijan. Two new gas compressors are being built in Georgia and once this expansion is complete the pipeline will carry up to 25 billion cubic meters of gas every year.

Simple Shelter supplied four container mounted shelters to the Azfen-Saipem joint venture, which is contracting to BP to build the pipeline. Simple Shelter's container mounted shelters were chosen because of the ease of construction and relocation. A very attractive feature of the Simple Shelter design was the twistlock mounting beams, a beam system which makes installation in the field very quick and easy and allows for rapid relocation where required.

Faultless performance at the Alpine Drilling Project

Simple Shelter played a critical role in the recent project to gather information about the Alpine Fault – New Zealand’s biggest earthquake threat. From October through to early 2015, scientists from all over the world gathered in Whataroa, near Franz Josef Glacier, in order to drill 1.3km into the fault and analyse the findings.

The Simple Shelter was required to protect the sensitive equipment from the wild weather in the valley – and according to project manager Ray Marx, it held out “amazingly well”. “The first week we were here after it went up we had a really big wind storm come through – it actually moved four containers. And the Shelter was up at that point and it’s still up.”

Project co-leader Rupert Sutherland was similarly impressed at the durability of the Simple Shelter. “I must say that I was quite amazed that it was able to withstand the local weather that we had. It was so windy that shipping containers were being moved by the wind, but the shelter did not buckle or rip.”

Due to its location in the narrow Whataroa Valley with high winds coming off the Southern Alps and storms rolling in from the sea, the site experiences “gale force winds coming up the valley every couple of weeks”.

Because of this challenging environment, the team chose Simple Shelter for its high wind and snow ratings and proven track record in withstanding the most rigorous conditions around.

Plant shut-down solutions from Simple Shelter

When Methanex needed temporary structures during their scheduled shut-down period, they gave Simple Shelter a call. The brief was straightforward: two structures were required for a sensitive welding process which needed to take place under cover during the shut-down.

Simple Shelter supplied and installed two fully enclosed Simple Shelters with electrically operated winch-up doors - the two blue Simple Shelters are visible in the middle of the aerial photo on the left.

Simple Shelter has supplied structures for a number of heavy industry shut-down operations over the years - please give us a call if you have an upcoming shut-down or maintenance project scheduled!

Total Project Management

One of Simple Shelter’s high profile projects involved supplying and installing a Simple Shelter on double stacked containers for a client building a large luxury houseboat near its launch site on the banks of the Waikato River.

This project included the supply and management of hire containers, security fencing, generator, lighting, toilet facilities and other project requirements by Simple Shelter.

Complete management of project facilities by Simple Shelter left the boat builders free to focus on working to their construction deadlines without the distraction of facilities management. The project was successfully completed within the project deadlines.

Talk to us today about the many 'added value' options that Simple Shelter can offer, including the supply and management of project facilities.
